Just this week, Routescene announced a new market segment into which it plans to enter. Routescene developed technology to do this; it is known as the “LidarPod.” The LidarPod can be placed easily and readily onto any UAV; and, in fact, the first flight just took place in Bremen, Germany. The applications this new GIS technology would serve are those of inspecting power lines from the air, biomass mapping, as well as detailing the geophysical boundaries of the various forests and jungles.
The advantages of this new technology are tremendous:
- It can be wing mounted, and reduce drag on the UAV.
- Longer flight times are now possible, which means that greater survey mapping can take place, allowing for the greatest of details to be captured.
- There are minimal levels of noise and vibration in the UAV, which permits extremely clear pictures and videos of land masses to be taken.
