I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you and the GeoTel Communications team for partnering with EducationSuperHighway (ESH) in our mission of bringing broadband internet to every public school in America.
Since our launch in 2012, ESH has helped connect over 40 million students to the minimum speed necessary for digital learning. Although major progress has been achieved toward connecting nearly every public school classroom to high-speed broadband, there is yet much work to be done. Our annual State of the State report released last fall cites the urgent need to close the digital divide for 2.3 million students across the nation who still lack access to the minimum connectivity required for digital learning and the 1,350 schools without a fiber-optic connection.
The critical work of ESH would not be possible without the help and generosity of partners like GeoTel, and through the ongoing support and philanthropy of The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the Ford Foundation, and our other funders. With the unparalleled geospatial telecom datasets being provided by GeoTel, we will be able to identify opportunities for further closing the digital divide in America’s education system. We can’t thank you enough, and we look forward to working with you and the GeoTel team as we seek to find a clear and affordable path for closing the remaining connectivity gap.
